Parts of some popular Central Coast beaches are closed, to protect the breeding grounds of some endangered birds.

Restrictions went into effect March 1st at Minuteman, Surf, and Wall Beaches on Vandenberg Air Force Base to help Western Snowy Plovers.

The closures don’t affect the entire beaches, but just sections of them. However, if there are too violations of the closed sections of the beaches by people, or pets, then the entire beaches may be closed. The Snowy Plovers actually nest on sections of the beaches.

The closures are set to remain in effect through September.
