2016 marked the 75th anniversary of the United States plunging into World War Two.
KCLU's Lance Orozco produced a special series of reports during 2016 telling some of the stories of members of what's been dubbed "The Greatest Generation" who live in our coverage area of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties.
They are the forgotten stories of our mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers who were involved in the war fighting for the country, or as victims of circumstances.
There are four segments:
11/14/2016 Kristallnacht
A survivor talks about the little know attacks by Nazis on Jews in germany which many consider a precursor to the Holocaust
8/26/2016 Remembering Those Who Served
A young man from our area has taken on the task of trying to record the stories of hundreds of veteran while they are still living, and able to tell them
12/4/2016 Pearl Harbor
A member of the increasingly small group of Pearl Harbor survivors tells his story, as he preares to go to Hawaii for the 75th anniversary celebration
12/7/2016 Japanese Internment
As America remebers the 75th anniversary of Pearl harbor, we highlight a shameful part of our history which occurred in its aftermath, which was the rounding up and confinement of many people of Japanese descent due to post-attack hysteria
