Disaster Drill Set For South Coast Airport; People May See Smoke Coming From Runway Area

People passing by a South Coast airport will see what looks like a full-blown emergency tomorrow, with smoke and pyrotechnics coming from a runway area.

But, it’s actually part of efforts to sharpen the abilities of more than a dozen public safety, and governmental agencies to respond to a real life crisis should one occur at Santa Barbara.

The live disaster drill will take place from around 9 to 10:30 Tuesday morning northwest of the airport’s main runway.
