This is a huge day for a race car driver from the Central Coast, who has a prime starting position in the Indianapolis 500 race. Townsend Bell has the number two inside starting position in today’s 100th edition of the race, which starts at noon.
Bell’s hometown is San Luis Obispo, and he went to college at UC Santa Barbara. He started racing go-carts at the age of 12, and started racing professionally in the late 1990’s.
Bell has raced around the world, is a test driver for Honda, and works as an auto racing commentator for NBC, and Fox Sports.
