New Ventura County Supervisor Takes Office A Month Early, Thanks To Governor

One of the newest county supervisors on the Central and South Coasts is starting his new job a month early.

Matt LaVere was elected in March as Ventura County’s new First District Supervisor.  He was set to take office in January.

But the person who had been holding the seat, longtime County Supervisor Steve Bennett, officially took the oath of office Monday as the region’s new 37th District Assemblyman.

Governor Gavin Newsom appointed La Vere to the supervisorial post, so Lavere can start work early and the post won’t remain vacant for a month.  He’s an attorney who has served as a Ventura City councilman and as Mayor of Ventura.
