With Coronavirus Shutdown Relaxing, Some Central, South Coasts Stores Begin Limited Operations

With coronavirus shutdown orders eased slightly on the Central and South Coasts, some businesses like florists have been allowed to resume limited operations.

It’s a big weekend for some businesses on the Central and South Coasts, which have been able to reopen for the first time since they were hit by coronavirus shutdown orders.

And with Mother's Day around the corner, it’s especially busy at Blue Violet Flowers in Thousand Oaks.  They reopened Friday, just in time for the holiday this weekend, and workers are scrambling to get a flood of orders out the door.

The governor’s order cleared the way for the limited reopening of businesses like florists, bookstores, toy stores and clothing stores in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.  It’s curbside pickup only, but it’s something for businesses and customers.

Tricia O’Brien went to a Westlake Village bookstore to pick up a book she’d ordered.  She says she could have ordered the book online, but wanted to support the local store.

One of the next steps in the governor’s plan is the reopening of things like dining in restaurants, but the guidelines are tough enough that step could be weeks away still.
