For the first time in months, you are going to be able to go to a movie theater on the South Coast.  The drop in the number of new coronavirus cases in Santa Barbara County set the stage for theaters to reopen.

Metropolitan Theaters announced it will reopen two of its Santa Barbara County theater complexes this week.

Metropolitan will open the Fiesta 5 Theaters in downtown Santa Barbara, and the Camino Real Cinema complex in Goleta Friday.

There will be a number of safety precautions in place.

Groups will be social distanced in theater auditoriums.  Face coverings will be required at all times, even while seated, except while eating.  There will be increased cleaning.  And, safety barriers have been installed at box offices, and concession stands.

Santa Barbara County moved from the state’s purple to red coronavirus ranking level this week, which set the stage for more reopenings.
