Central Coast Rodeo, Rodeo Parade, Plus Most Related Events Cancelled Due To Coronavirus Concerns

It was first postponed, but now one of the biggest community events on the Central Coast is being cancelled for 2020 because of coronavirus safety concerns.

The Santa Maria Elks Rodeo traditionally takes place in May.  Because of safety orders related to the virus, organizers moved the week long series of events, and the rodeo itself to September.

Now, given the continuing number of coronavirus cases, and restrictions on gatherings, the rodeo, the rodeo parade, and other related events have been cancelled.  The Rodeo Queen competition will still be held, but it will take place online.

It would have been the 77th annual rodeo.  It’s a financial blow for the community, because the week long series of events are a big boost for motels, restaurants, and other businesses.
