New Program At Central Coast Air Force Base Looks To Boost STEM Interest In Area Students
Vandenberg Air Force Base on the Central Coast is the newest site for a program to encourage students in the Lompoc Unified School District to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
The Deparment of Defense's STARBASE program has many hands-on learning opportunities as well as a breadth of topics, and students can learn about molecular compounds, computer programming, and engineering and math.
Students are taught in-person under COVID-19 safety protocols.
The Air Force Base is looking to have a consistent and interactive involvement with the students and the teachers, with the aim that students who take a liking to the program can go on to pursue jobs in their field of interest.
