After a grand jury investigation into train-related deaths in the Santa Barbara area, the City of Santa Barbara has come up with plans to reduce risk in the corridor.
Other nearby jurisdictions, including Goleta and the County of Santa Barbara, are expected to do the same.
A letter to the court says that there are 5.9 miles of Union Pacific rail lines through the city.
The plan includes more reduction of vegetation in areas where homeless camps tend to form, as well as graffiti abatement and fencing changes.
It will also include enforcement of rules against illegally parked cars and attempt to create sealed corridors to discourage pedestrians where possible.
New safety mechanisms and signage have just been added at Milpas Street and State Street where the train passes through.
