A Santa Barbara County Fire Service Asks For Public Help Meeting Service Agendas

The Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District is having growing pains and funding issues recently. The public has been asked for help.

Two meetings were held Wednesday to get input on what local residents expect from their fire agency and any other comments relating to the location of new fire stations or what they are willing to pay in taxes or fees for this service.

A bond measure for about $11 million last year to help with fire services, failed. A special consultant has been hired to do the local research and report back to the board.

The district has a long list of responsibilities beyond structure and brush fires or medical calls.

They also have an ocean water rescue crew and deal with issues on Highway 101 and Union Pacific train tracks on a regular basis.
