SpaceX flight would boost 24 communications satellites into orbit.

If you’re out Friday night, you might want to keep your eyes open for a big sight in the skies above the Tri-Counties.

SpaceX is set to launch two dozen communications satellites from the Central Coast. The Falcon 9 rocket is set to lift off from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 8:51 p.m. Friday. The launch window extends to 9:52 p.m. You could hear sonic booms from the launch.

Its payload is 24 Starlink satellites, part of a growing network of thousands of small satellites intended to provide internet and cell phone service to underserved parts of the world.

The reusable first-stage booster is set to land on a barge off the West Coast.
