A new survey shows a spike in homelessness in Ventura County.

Mini-census shows a 9% increase in unhoused people in the county.

A just released spot survey of homelessness in Ventura County shows a spike in numbers.

The count found more than 2400 homeless people in the county, which was up by around 9% from 2022.

The county’s 2023 Homeless Point In Time Count was conducted in January, with hundreds of volunteers spreading out to do a mini census survey.

The report suggests some of the biggest factors in the increase are rising rents, and the limited availability of affordable housing. The annual survey provides data used by the federal government to assess eligibility for funding for homelessness relief programs.
