There's been an arrest in connection with a murder in Oxnard last December.

Suspect was already in custody in the Ventura County Jail on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest.

There’s been an arrest in what believed to be the random killing of a man in Ventura County.

John Carrillo was shot to death last December in the carport of his Oxnard apartment building. Detectives say the 20-year-old man was approached by gang members, and was shot after a brief conversation.

Investigators say their four-month-long investigation led to Michael Ortega of Oxnard being identified as the person responsible for the killing.

The 23-year-old man was already in the Ventura County Jail on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest this week for the killing.
