Police say alert Santa Paula man spotted the trio in the act, which led to the chase and the men's capture.

Police say three men were arrested after they were caught in the act of stealing a car’s catalytic converter, but not before there was a chase which started in Ventura County, and ended in Los Angeles County.

Santa Paula Police say it happened early Tuesday morning. A man awakened by a surveillance camera alert went outside. He told officers he encountered two men in the process of removing one of the converters from a car with a chain saw. He said they threatened him with the saw, but then fled.

Santa Paula Police spotted the vehicle heading east on Highway 126. They notified CHP officers, who deployed spike strips. The car became disabled on Interstate 5 in the Santa Clarita area.

The three Los Angeles men in the vehicle were arrested for a variety of charges ranging from robbery and evading arrest to assault with a deadly weapon.
