Ventura County’s efforts to go green are getting another boost. The county has reached a deal with a solar energy company to expand its solar power system at the Ventura County Government Center.

The added panels will generate about nine million kilowatt hours of electricity a year, which is enough to power more than 760 homes annually.

ForeFront Power will design, permit, build, and own the new panels, and sell the energy to the county.

County officials say not only with the project create new green energy, it will save more than $10 million in power costs over the next 20 years. The goal is to have the new panels online in 2025.
