Call the cardiologist! Nothing low fat at the Ventura County Fair. It's deep fried everything!

It's all about "jumbo," "giant," and "deep fried" when you dive into the fun food at the Ventura County Fair.

But, fairgoers say that's okay. They say you throw out the rules when you are spending a day at the fair.

What would a county fair be without crazy fair food? The Ventura County Fair features all kinds of wild foods, including just about anything you can deep fry. Eating healthy isn’t a priority.

The days of getting a simple burger or hot dog are long gone. The more decadent, the better.

How about a half pound pork chop on a stick? Check. Maple and bacon covered cookies? They’re here. There are dozens of booths loaded with temptation of all sorts. And, there’s enough fried food to give a cardiologist a heart attack.

Giant pretzels are among the many tasty (yet calorie-filled) offerings at the Ventura County Fair.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco talks with some of the fairgoers about the decadent delights they are enjoying. Listen to the story to hear about their culinary adventures (and misadventures!).

And don’t worry, your opportunity to get an entire week’s worth of calories in one meal still exists. The Ventura County Fair runs through Sunday.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
