K9's and aircraft were involved in the manhunt in Santa Barbara.

A burglary and theft suspect is back behind bars after briefly escaping from the Main Santa Barbara County Jail.

Nicholas Erickson had been booked at the jail June 18th on more than a half dozen charges. Jail officials say he escaped at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Custody deputies locked down the main jail, deployed K9’s, and had aircraft help with the search.

The 26-year-old Santa Barbara man was arrested with the help of a K9 about 90 minutes later. He suffered minor injuries from his escape attempt, and from the K9 when he initially refused to surrender to officers.

Jail officials aren’t talking about how the man managed to escape.
