A brush fire is burning in the Hollister Ranch area, on the Gaviota Coast of Santa Barbara County.

The fire started at around 11:30 Saturday morning, and was spread by erratic winds in the area. By early afternoon, it was reported to be around 50 acres.

Helicopters and air tankers were used to fight the fire.

The area is sparsely populated, with scattered ranches. There are no reports of any structures being damaged.

Santa Barbara County firefighters say the blaze has the potential to grow to more than 500 acres.
