Unemployment up on Central, South Coasts; Holds steady statewide

Region's jobless numbers still close to pre-pandemic levels.

Unemployment numbers are up on the Central and South Coasts, while holding steady statewide.

The state Employment Development Department just released January's figures.

Ventura County went from a 4.2% jobless rate in December, to 4.7% in January. Santa Barbara County's numbers spiked from 3.9% to 4.7%. And, San Luis Obispo County went from 3.3% in December, to 3.8% in January.

Statewide, the jobless rate held steady from month-to-month, at 5.8%.
