Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies intercepted 15 people who landed on the Gaviota coastline near El Capitain State Beach in a panga boat Monday morning.

Authorities say they have detained 15 people who landed on a Santa Barbara County beach Monday morning in a panga boat.

The boat was spotted at around 9 a.m. just west of El Capitan State Beach, on the Gaviota coastline.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is working with state, and federal agencies to determine jurisdiction in the case.

Santa Barbara County has had an ongoing problem with smugglers using panga boats to move drugs, and people from Mexico into the United States.
