Ventura County Child Recovering After Accidentally Shooting Himself With Pistol

Child thought weapon was toy

A nine-year-old South Coast boy is in stable condition after accidentally shooting himself in the hand with a pistol he found in his home.

It happened just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, on South N Street in Oxnard. The boy found the gun, and thought it was a toy.

The Oxnard Police Department’s Family Protection Unit took over the investigation. They got a search warrant, and found a rifle, an unlicensed gun, and some narcotics.

Officers arrested a 17-year-old boy who lived there for possession of an illegal firearm, unsafe storage of a weapon, and for possession of illegal drugs for sale.
