A man flying a paraglider on the South Coast crash landing in the mountains, and had to be rescued by a helicopter.
It happened Sunday afternoon near Divide Peak, north of Carpinteria.
Cell phone GPS data helped locate the pilot.
Firefighters with the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District tried to reach the injured man, but the terrain was too rugged to get to him by foot.
A Santa Barbara County Fire Department helicopter was sent to the scene. A crew member was lowered to the man, and they were then both hoisted to safety. The paraglider pilot escaped with minor injuries. There’s no word on what led to the crash.
