A major winter storm which forced some evacuations arrived on the Central and South Coasts. Evacuation orders have been in effect since 8 Friday night for parts of the Thomas, Whittier and Sherpa fire burn zones. The Ventura RV Resort was also evacuated Friday night.
There are scattered reports of fallen trees, and downed power lines.
Meteorologists say the heaviest rain could come between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Rainfall totals are predicted to be in the one to three inch range on the coast and inland, and up to seven inches in the mountains.
As of 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Gaviota had 1.6" in rain, Santa Barbara .78", Carpinteria .5", Solvang 1.56", Ventura .56", and Oxnard .69". Uper Matilija Canyon in Ventura County recorded 2.12".
The biggest concern is about the potential for heavy, concentrated rainfall during short periods of times which could trigger debris flows. Public works crews worked around the clock getting debris basins cleared in preparation for the storm.
