Cleanup efforts are underway on a decommissioned oil processing facility on the South Coast.  The Ellwood Marine Terminal hasn’t been used since 2012.

The facility was part of Venoco’s crude oil operation in Santa Barbara County.

Crews are removing contaminants from the old pipelines and tanks located on UC Santa Barbara property just east of Ellwood Mesa.

The cleanup is expected to take about a week.  City of Goleta officials say a number of safety measures are in place to prevent spills.
