Mixing West African roots, Gospel harmonies and American funk, women-led ensemble ADAAWE perform a free public concert on Wednesday as the Ventura Music Festival gets back to business.
It's good to be back, after scaling down for the pandemic – says the festival’s musical director Nuvi Mehta.
"Music and the arts has a particular way of attaching us back in and connecting us back into community," he told KCLU.
Originally set for July 2020 and among the scores of COVID-cancelled performances worldwide, VMF Executive Susan Scott said, “We’re committed to building community through music, and opening with a free Concert in the Park mid-week seems a perfect way to launch the 27th season festival and the six concerts that follow.”
The festival runs July 29-31 and August 5-7. Information and tickets can be found on the VMF website or call the box office at (805) 648-3146.
