The City of Ojai voted to prohibit gas in new buildings, making it the first city in Ventura County to embrace an all-electric future.
It comes after the city banned the use of gas-powered landscaping equipment earlier this year.
Now, it’s gone a step further and banned gas in new buildings – with the exception of restaurants and pools.
Michelle Ellison, Chair of the City’s Climate Emergency Mobilization Committee told KCLU that the city is leading the way when it comes to cleaner energy.
"We really want to lead by example. All electric is less expensive both to build and to operate.
"It's better for indoor air-quality and also helps with the climate impact related to carbon and methane emissions from gas."
