Just after 5 in the evening on Monday, a pedestrian was struck and hit by a van in Santa Barbara.

The 60-year-old-man later died of his injuries at Cottage Hospital.

Police say the van was going the appropriate speed, and alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the incident.

The say they pedestrian was believed to have come out from between two vans and into the traffic lane. There were eyewitnesses.

The accident required a lengthy investigation by specially trained officers.

Last Friday, about a mile and a half away, another pedestrian was hit and killed by a semi truck on the Garden Street ramp at Highway 101.

Police also believe that death was an accident.
