Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days Fiesta is known for horses, dancing, food, culture and the famous cascarones - confetti-filled eggs that are smashed all over town.
In recent years, the paper confetti isn't the only filler.
The colorful shiny plastic mylar has also been added in some of the eggs or small bags of confetti.
Old Spanish Days Presidente for 2016, JC Gordon, says he wants mylar to be eliminated because it's harmful if it gets into the ocean.
He's asking all cascarones vendors to keep mylar out, and asking buyers not to buy mylar confetti during the fiesta.
