A South Coast zoo’s newest resident is one which is impressive in size from day one of its life.
A baby giraffe was born at the Santa Barbara Zoo this week. While Ramie is only a few days old, he’s nearly six feet tall, and weighs about 156 pounds.
Ramie is the 11th Masai Giraffe born at the zoo.
The species is endangered. The birth at the Santa Barbara Zoo is part of a breeding program to increase their numbers. The zoo’s latest addition will remain behind the scenes for now, giving the giraffe and its parents time to bond.
