Police and fire department investigators say surveillance camera video led to the arrest of a man for a string of 18 arson fires on the South Coast.

The fires targeted dumpsters in an Oxnard neighborhood.  Fortunately, none of the fires spread to homes or other neighboring structures.  Some residents along San Gorgonio Avenue supplied investigators with surveillance camera video which helped identify the suspect.

They arrested Jose Bernal of Oxnard on an unrelated charge, and say when he was questioned he confessed to the dumpster fires as well as to some other arson blazes in the city.
