Ventura County elections officials say they have been receiving reports of some people promoting unofficial ballot drop boxes.  County officials say they have even been promoting them as “official” or “secure,” when not only are they unofficial, they are illegal.

The county has recognizable lock boxes at safe locations bearing the official County Elections logo.

People are being asked to report questionable or unauthorized boxes.  So far, there is no word of any of the unofficial boxes turning up in the county.

The California Republican Party has come under fire from the Secretary of State’s Office after party officials admitted putting up some unauthorized ballot boxes in parts of the state.  Alex Padilla says the county elections officials are the only ones who can legally place dropoff boxes.
