A brush fire burning in the Channel Islands has now burned more than 700 acres of land, but is now 80% contained.
The blaze was discovered Sunday morning in the Scorpion Valley area of Santa Cruz Island. 20 Los Padres National Forest firefighters were sent to the battle the blaze.
It’s expected Monday afternoon, there will be about 60 involved in the effort.
Air tankers and a Santa Barbara County helicopter have been helping to fight the fire. National Park Service officials say because of the remote, rugged nature of the area, full containment will be difficult.
There aren’t a lot of structures on the island, but there’s no word of any of them being damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
