Section Of Highway 101 In Santa Barbara County Facing Intermittent Closures For Roadwork Wednesday

If you’re driving on the Central Coast’s busiest highway Wednesday, you could face delays because of a project to remove some dangerous rocks.

Caltrans is performing a rock removal operation on a hillside above Highway 101 north of the Gaviota tunnel.

Because of safety concerns, there will be intermittent full closures of northbound Highway 101 in the area between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The closures will allow crews to clear rocks removed from the hillside to be cleared from the highway.

Northbound traffic could face delays of up to 10 minutes. People wishing to avoid the potential delays are being advised to use Highway 154 between Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley.
