A Ventura County congresswoman is making a new push to help female military veterans with substance abuse issues. Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley of Westlake Village introduced new legislation requiring the Veterans Administration to better monitor and assess treatment and rehabilitation programs.
It also calls for establishment of pilot residential programs in which female veterans can live at a treatment facility while working at jobs and participating in therapy.
Brownley says it can often be difficult for female veterans to find substance abuse treatment programs which meet their unique needs.
