Firefighters Now Have 60% Containment Of Brush Fire Near Highway 101 On South Coast

Containment of the Olivas Fire in Ventura County was up to 50% as of midday Friday
(Ventura County Fire Department)

A brush fire which at one point sent smoke billowing across Highway 101 in Ventura County during the morning communte is now 60% contained.

The Olivas Fire started just after 4 a.m. Friday in the Santa Clara River bed, near the Highway 101-Victoria Avenue interchange.  No structures were threatened.

But, the rugged terrain and lack of access to the area on the Ventura-Oxnard border has made the 200 acre plus blaze tough to fight.
