A construction accident led to a gas line rupture and evacuations in a South Coast neighborhood. Santa Barbara firefighters say it happened just before 11 a.m. Monday on the 200 block of Cottage Grove Avenue. A two inch gas line was damaged by a construction crew, and started leaking.

It led to the evacuation of more than 15 people. Some other nearby residents were asked to shelter in place. Crews were able to safely turn off the gas, and people were able to return to the neighborhood by early afternoon.
