It took three rounds of voting, but the Santa Barbara City Council has filled a vacancy. Ten people applied to fill the vacancy created by Councilman Gregg Hart’s election to the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. The council chose Meagan Harmon to fill the post.
Harmon is an attorney who speaks four languages, and worked for a humanitarian group in Afghanistan. She was chosen over a number of candidates who were politically active, but was seen by many as an independent voice who would come to the council without an agenda.
She was actully chosen in the third round of voting, but there was a fourth ceremonial vote in which the council unanimously approved her selection to fill the vacant seat.
