Eight people are homeless after a fire hit a South Coast apartment complex.

The fire was discovered at about 12:30 Thursday afternoon in a two story complex on the 1000 block of Cliff Drive in Santa Barbara.

Residents of the apartments were able to get out safely. No one was hurt. Firefighters say the blaze gutted a first floor one apartment, and caused smoke damage to other units next to, and above it.

They knocked down the blaze in about 15 minutes. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
