Two people had a brush with death when the light plane they were in crashed after takeoff in Ventura County.

The plane had just lifted off from Santa Paula Airport at around 2 p.m. Sunday when it apparently had engine problems. The plane crash landed in the Santa Clara River bottom, flipping over on impact.

The vintage biplane suffered heavy damage, but the two people on board were able to get out of the aircraft by themselves. No serious injuries were reported.
