Firefighters have reached a milestone in efforts to contain a wildfire fire that’s been burning out of control for more than a week in the Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County.

The Pine Fire is now 50% contained. The fire has burned more than 2300 acres of trees, chaparral, and brush in a wilderness area about 11 miles northeast of Ojai.

The rugged terrain has made efforts to contain the blaze difficult. More than 600 firefighters are now involved in the effort, with water dropping helicopters playing a key role in the effort. No structures have been reported damaged.
