Ventura County has now dropped legal action against five businesses which officials say refused to comply with COVID-19 safety orders.
The county had gone to court to try to stop the indoor operations of three fitness businesses in Oxnard, Port Hueneme, and Westlake Village. The legal actions also included restaurants in Oxnard and Thousand Oaks which officials say openly defied key safety orders.
Ventura County Supervisors say in light of the county’s move to the red tier, they are dropping the suits as an act of goodwill. They say the lawsuits were never intended to be punitive, but were efforts to stop the businesses from endangering their customers with unsafe practices.
Supervisors thanked the vast majority of businesses which complied with safety orders. They noted the businesses were acting in the best interests of the community despite the financial hardships they faced.
