The state’s stay at home order for the 11 county Southern California region which includes Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties is set to expire Monday.
But, given the continued surge, California Governor Gavin Newsom says it’s expected the order will be formally extended Tuesday.
The stay-at-home order was triggered by the intensive care unit capacity for the region falling below 15%. It’s currently at zero percent.
Newsom says the question will be answered tomorrow, after the latest COVID-19 statistics are examined. The deciding factor will be projected COVID-19 numbers for the next four weeks.
The order prompted things like the shutdown of restaurants to on-site dining, as well as new closures for places like gyms and hair salons.
Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties have petitioned the state to break away from the Southern California region so they could reopen faster. State officials aren’t saying whether it will consider it.
