One year after the deadly and destructive Montecito Mudflow, a special memorial event will take place tonight.

The gathering begins at 6:30 p.m. at Manning Park on San Ysidro Road.

Those attending will carry candles on a walk toward the ocean and the All Saints-by-the-Sea church.

There will be a special time of reflection, speeches, and songs, including a special performance by Lauren Cantin. The girl, who was 14 at the time, was rescued from the mud and debris, but lost her father and her brother in the catastrophe.

23 people died. Two of them were never found.
