A unique new dance opera about the life of an acclaimed, but little known author from the 1920’s is premiering in Santa Barbara this weekend, after being performed in France, where the writer lived.
Music, dance, and video are being used for a dance opera telling the story of a literary legend, Anaïs Nin. Nin was a major writer in Europe in the 1920’s. The Cuban author was raised in France, and was part of the cultural scene with artists like Henry Miller. Cindy Shapiro is the production’s composer and lyricist, and says it mixes a singer, dancers, and video to tell Nin’s story.
The dance opera will be performed Friday and Saturday nights at 8, at Santa Barbara’s New Vic Theater.
