A little bit of Hawaii comes to the South Coast this weekend. It’s the 12th annual Aloha Beach Festival at Surfer’s Point/Promenade Park in Ventura. It features a longboard surf contest, paddle board and outrigger races and Polynesian and Hawaiian dancers.
"It really brings the great community together," the festival's director and founder Chipper Bro Bell said. "We love Ventura because it's unpolished. And, that makes it so fun with that Aloha spirit is met right at the ocean."
Proceeds benefit the Matilija Coalition, which aims to remove the Matilija Dam for environmental restoration of the Ventura River watershed.
The free event runs from 10 am until 8 pm Saturday and 10 am until 5 pm Sunday. About 9,000 people are expected to attend the festival each day.
