On San Nicholas Island, the woman who inspired "Island of the Blue Dolphins" did just that.

An archaeologist who’s spent years researching her story is speaking about his findings at a special event this weekend.

The woman’s mysterious life has led to stories, movies, and a best selling novel still used in schools.
