There’s a warning about some phony property tax notices being sent out to some landowners in the Tri-Counties. Some of the letters have gone out to property owners in Ventura County.
The phony notices claim that payment is overdue, the recipient owes money, and is facing the seizure of their assets, or property unless they call an 800 number to make payment.
The letters don’t have local addresses or phone numbers. Officials with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office say a legitimate notice would have local contact information.
They say if you ever receive a letter of this type, you should contact your Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office directly, to verify the claims.
