It was a massive sewage spill in Ventura County, triggered by the huge January 9th storm. Now, some of the beaches closed by the spill have reopened.
An estimated 14 million gallons of sewage ended up in the Ventura River, after two Ojai Valley Sanitary District sewage pipes were damaged. It took two days to stop the flow of sewage.
The contamination closed more than a dozen Ventura beaches. Tests done early this week show the bacteria levels have eased enough that most of the beaches have reopened.
The only ones which are still closed are San Buenaventura State Beach at Kalorama Street, and another section of the state beach at Sanjon Road.
