Could there be a potential health hazard at a high school in the Tri-Counties?
The Santa Barbara Unified School District will do an environmental assessment at Dos Pueblos High School. Some staff members have expressed concern about a possible issue because there have been a number of employees who developed cancer over the last several years.
District officials say after learning of the concerns, they contacted Santa Barbara County, and state public health officials for guidance. Starting on December 19th, an environmental risk assessment company will start a study looking at potential issues.
They will test things like indoor and outdoor air quality, and soil on campus to see if there is a problem. Superintendent Dr. Hilda Maldonado says it is unknown if there is an actual problem. But, she says they want to move quickly to see if there is an issue, and if so, deal with it.
